Collecting Pieces: Why We Choose to Travel

We believe that ultimately we’re made up of much more than our physical avatar. Some call it a soul. Our essence. An aura. Whatever you call it, we’re more than just meat and bones.

But what makes up that extra something? What really makes us, us? We believe we’re a jigsaw of puzzle pieces. Our thoughts. Our actions. Experiences. Memories. Our interactions with others. These pieces make us who we are. Our experiences and the impact we leave on others. The memory you leave on a stranger is as much a part of you as the one you take away.

So, we’re out here dead set on collecting as many pieces as we can. And making those pieces the best damn pieces we can make them.

Our Travel Values

After a decade of marriage and traveling together, we realized we have a set of travel values that we like to live by. We think about these when planning our trips.

We love planning trips. Researching a destination and picking the path you want to explore is half the fun. But, shit happens. You’ll miss a flight. Drive to the wrong airport. Get detoured through the center of a foreign country and not see a village with a car for hours. Realize that those moments are the best memories. Have an adventure and a chuckle.

Bucket list experiences happen off the beaten path. Ancient mariners used to mark unexplored areas of maps with a warning: Here There be Monsters. This is exactly where you want to be. Sure list of the top sites to see in any destination are great, but your real memories come off the beaten path.

Take a bite, you might love it. Don’t be the asshole who travels a million miles away just to eat at a McDonalds or Subway. Try shit. The food that looks unfamiliar? Try it. The party happening in a random town square? Try it. Invited to a family Christmas Eve cookout on the beach? Fucking go. Sink your teeth into everything you can.
